In the centre of Prague’s Unesco protected World Heritage Site, this important group of buildings dates back to the 14th century.
Thirteen high quality apartments were created, and the historic finishes and facades were painstakingly restored, including the remarkable renaissance painted ceilings, the baroque facades, and the gothic vaulting.
Modern services were introduced into the historic interiors including two lifts, which were placed in elegantly detailed lightweight glazed shafts in courtyards, to minimise disruption to the original fabric and to maintain a clear separation between the original historic fabric and the later interventions.
A mediaeval street was discovered in one of the courtyards. Its massive paving was exposed and restored and the enclosure at one end of it was kept as transparent and unobtrusive as possible by the use of contemporary frameless glazing techniques.
