Adams + Collingwood are the architects for the restoration of this historically important and imposing, but extremely dilapidated former coaching inn at Tunbridge Wells, and have obtained consent for its adaptation into 7 high quality apartments.
The house is Listed Grade 2, and much of it dates from the early 18th Century. However it has been added to and altered repeatedly over the years, so it was necessary to undertake detailed historical analysis to establish the chronology and evolution of the building.
The building, also presents significant technical challenges, being largely timber framed with rampant decay and serious structural problems. However it is being brought up to contemporary standards of insulation, fire resistance, acoustic and structural performance while minimising unnecessary losses of original fabric.
